Suicidal Tendencies is an American hardcore punk band founded in 1981 in Venice, Los Angeles, California by Mike Muir, its leader and only permanent member. The band is sometimes credited as one of “the fathers of crossover thrash”. To date, Suicidal Tendencies have released eight studio albums, one EP, four split albums including the rare “Welcome to Venice”, six compilation albums (one of which is a “double-EP”, while the other is a re-recording of their debut album), and two long-form videos. Other than a small selection of new and previously unreleased songs on the split/compilation albums Friends & Family, Vol. 2 (2001), Year of the Cycos (2008), No Mercy Fool!/The Suicidal Family (2010) and The Mad Mad Muir Musical Tour (2011), Suicidal Tendencies have released no new material in the way of albums or singles since their last album, Free Your Soul and Save My Mind, came out in 2000.

Suicidal Tendencies formed in 1981 as a punk band in Venice, California. The original lineup of the band consisted of Mike Muir on vocals, Mike Ball on guitar, Carlos “Egie” Egert on drums, and Mike Dunnigan on bass. After the recording of its first demo, Carlos Egert left the band and was replaced by Dunnigan’s brother Sean. Muir, at the time a student at Santa Monica College, originally only intended Suicidal Tendencies as a “party band” for fun, but as the band grew in notoriety he soon found the band at the center of his life. Suicidal Tendencies had a rough start including being voted “Worst Band/Biggest Assholes” in Flipside in 1982 but the following year were voted “Best New Band”. There were many rumors of the band members as well as their friends and followers being involved with gangs (especially the Venice White Boyz), with Muir’s trademark blue bandanna and violence at the band’s performances as evidence. In their original lineup photo, which can be seen inside their self-titled debut album, drummer Amery Smith is wearing a flipped up hat and under the bill are the markings “V13″, which are initials for the gang Venice 13. Though there were probably a handful of V13 members who also became Suicidals, Amery was not a member of V13 but bassist Louiche Mayorga’s brother was (and that’s whose hat he’s wearing just for the photo). Eventually an entire gang sprung up around the group, the Suicidal Cycos (also known as the Suicidals, Suis or Suicidal Boyz), with chapters in Venice, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Oceanside and even a chapter in San Antonio, Texas. The band name is an obvious source of controversy, relying on a strong taboo that implies discussion around suicide might promote it[needs ref]. Using the opposition to fuel creativity, they quickly gained a following and began performing at larger gigs. They recorded a demo in 1982 and were featured on the Slamulation compilation LP on Mystic Records. The song featured was “I Saw Your Mommy”, which was later featured on their self-titled debut album. The Dunnigan brothers quit after these recordings, with Mike Dunnigan later joining Tony Alva’s band The Skoundrelz to be back with Mike Ball on guitar and Bela Horvath on drums. Ball stayed in the band for 2½ years before joining The Skoundrelz and was replaced by Dunnigan. Guitarist Rick Battson recorded the Demo before the first album and Grant Estes learned that demo replacing him on guitar and Playing on Suicidal’s first record.

All this controversy helped the band gain label attention, and in 1983 Suicidal signed with the independent label Frontier Records and released their self-titled debut. It was described by critic Steve Huey as “Fast, furious, and funny… Mike Muir proves himself an articulate lyricist and commentator, delving into subjects like alienation, depression, and nonconformist politics with intelligence and humor.” It contained the song “Institutionalized”, which featured a music video that became one of the first hardcore punk videos to receive substantial MTV airplay, and greatly expanded the band’s fan base. The song was featured on the 1984 film Repo Man, as well as in a 1986 episode of the TV show Miami Vice (“Free Verse”, which also featured a cameo appearance of the group performing in a new wave/punk club) and in the 2008 film Iron Man, where the song plays in the background as Tony Stark works on his car. Soon after the release of the debut album in 1983, Estes left the band and was replaced by Jon Nelson, former manager of Venice-based band Neighborhood Watch. Nelson played many shows with the band and also contributed to music for future songs like: “War Inside My Head”, “Human Guinea Pig”, and “Look Up…(The Boy’s Are Back)”, “You Got, I Want”, Nelson never recorded anything with them (except a live recording of the song “War Inside My Head”). All the music written by Nelson is credited on the albums as written by (Suicidal Tendencies) and not Jon Nelson, for he foolishly traded his publishing rights and writers credit to Mike Muir for a Flying V guitar. That same year was the first year of Suicidal’s four year recording hiatus and Mike Muir and bassist Louiche Mayorga formed the Label “Suicidal Records” as well as the band Los Cycos Jon Nelson left the group and Suicidal Tendencies were banned from playing L.A. shows from an Incident at Perkins Palace (their fans tore out ten rows of seats and promoters couldn’t get the proper Insurance to hire them) Muir was also about to try his hand at producing as well as starting the new label. Los Cycos was originally Mike Muir (Vocals), Bob Heathcote (bass), Anthony Gallo (Guitars) and Amery Smith (drums). After a few rehearsals Amery Smith left the line up to join Jon Nelson in starting their own band (The Brood) Los Cycos eventually included; Grant Estes on lead guitar and original choices Bob Heathcote and Amery Smith were replaced by Louiche Mayorga (bass) and Sal Troy for (drums). They recorded the song “It’s Not Easy” written by Muir. “Welcome to Venice” was the first record to be released on Suicidal Records, unfortunately the original masters were destroyed in a fire. In 1989 Suicidal Tendencies re-recorded “It’s Not Easy” for their 1989 release “Controlled By Hatred/Feel Like Shit… DejaVu” album. The other Los Cycos track “A Little Each Day” which never made it to the album, was re-recorded for the 1987 Suicidal Tendencies release “Join the Army” and again on “Still Cyco After All These Years” released in 93. In 2000 it resurfaced on the FNG compilation and a fourth time on 2008s (split) album Lights…Camera…Revolution!/Still Cyco After All These Years. Suicidal Tendencies played on the track “Look Up…(The Boys are Back) which was the introduction of guitarist Rocky George and drummer RJ Herrera.” The band finally found a new label in Caroline Records in 1986.

<fb:like href='http://www.andrewchemister.co.uk/blog/lionheart-lifer.html' send='false' layout='standard' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='recommend' colorscheme='light' font='lucida+grande'></fb:like>

“A lot of bands today don’t sing about the struggle, about hardships but that was always hardcore to me.” Rob Watson who delivers violently passionate vocals and lyrics for Bay Area based group, Lionheart speaks on the band’s upcoming album. “Built On Struggle is really the theme of a lot of my songs, about my personal demons. It’s about being a Lionheart to go through serious shit and being able to get up and walk away from it.” Set to intensely furious hardcore with weight of downtuned metallic guitars, Built To Struggle is the one of the most introspective albums to set the pit off with. One of the most personal songs on the album is Brother’s Keeper which features Bruce LaPage (original vocalist of 100 Demons) and guitar solo from Dave Nassie (Suicidal Tendencies/Bleeding Through). “The song is about my brother who is going through issues including substance abuse and incarceration and my support for him. We play that song live now and I talk about my inspiration for the song and it’s amazing how many people come up to me after the show with similar stories of supporting someone in their family with similar issues.”

An all star affair this is the band’s second album and features appearances from such high powered friends as those mentioned above and Brandan Schieppati (Bleeding Through), Lord Ezec (Skarhead, Icepick) and Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis). Watson says “We’ve become friends with everyone on this album by being on tour constantly over the past few years. These were people who inspired us and who also gave their all into their appearances on the album.” Hailing from the Bay Area of California, Lionheart apart from Watson is also made up of Jay Scott (drums), Travis Pacheco (bass), Evan Krejci (guitar) and Rob Mccarthy guitar. In 2007 the band released their debut album The Will To Survive in 2007. The album was Initially released on Mike Hood of legendary West Coast hardcore band, The Hoods own West Coast Worldwide label. Selling through it’s initial pressing the album was quickly picked up by Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed who re-released it on Stillborn Records.

From that time until now Lionheart has racked up an impressive amount of shows in this country and Europe touring an average of ten months a year. Some of their touring partners have included Skarhead, Bulldoze Sworn Enemy, Freya, Agnostic Front, Walls Of Jericho, H20, Thick As Blood, For The Fallen Dreams, Living Sacrifice, War Of Ages, Shai Hulud and Donnybrook. Currently Lionheart has just wrapped up a stint supporting NYHC heroes Madball. Watson says of the experience “Touring with Madball is unreal, to share the stage with a band that had such an impact on my life is amazing. The other night Freddy (Madball) was wearing a Lionheart shirt on stage. I had to get a picture to make sure it was real.” This January the band will join Terror and First Blood for a European run with more U.S. dates to follow.

Knuckledust are a London-based hardcore band. The band was formed in 1996 when Nic, Ray and Wema contacted Pelbu to start a band. As the groups popularity grew, the band played with Agnostic Front, Warzone, Madball, The Misfits among others.

After the release of the first mini CD and 7″ record in 1997 the band were soon offered their first album deal by Blackfish records in 1998. The success of this was to become apparent in 1999 when the album ‘Time Won’t Heal This…’ was licensed by a US label after continuing sales in Europe.

Time Won’t Heal This was considered a success in the UK but still lacked the bigger European market. In 2002 KD were offered a contract by Europe’s Gangstyle Records with their album ‘Universal Struggle’.

After completing the Eastpak Resistance Tour in 2003 the band were well on the way to becoming one of Europe’s better known Hardcore acts.

Knuckledust have toured with the likes of Blood For Blood, Suicidal Tendencies, Stampin’ Ground, Sworn Enemy, The Business, and Hatebreed and are involved with a number of other bands. Pelbu also helps run the DIY hardcore record label ‘Rucktion Records’.

With Gangstyle changing name to GSR Music, Knuckledust have since released ‘Unbreakable’ and released ‘Promises, Comfort Fools’ in October 2007.

All For Nothing is a female fronted hardcore band from south-side Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Behind the in-your-face hardcore, you will find metal and punk-rock influences in their music, all contributing to their own unique style.

All For Nothing was founded by Ernst-Jan Smits (Guitar and Vocals), Richard van Liessum (Drums), Marcel Helder (Guitar) and Normen Sam-Sin (Bass) in the beginning of 2002. After a long period finding out what direction the band should go they finally played their first gig in the beginning of 2003.

Their style of music was much appreciated and welcomed by the various audiences they played for. After a years hard work, playing in many venues a long the way, they started working on their first album release.

Their first album Start at Zero was released in July 2004. Start at Zero was produced and recorded by Patrick DeLabie at Studio 195 in Wernhout (NL). The album got great reviews in- and outside the Netherlands by renowned music magazines as well as online music websites.

Soon after the Start at Zero album release Marcel Helder got replaced by Melvin Sam-Sin.

In 2005 All For Nothing had a capital line-up change. They finally found a suitable lead vocalist personified by Cindy van der Heijden. Her accession has improved All For Nothing’s overall sound and results into an even more dynamic stage performance.

Because of this All For Nothing decided to record a 4 song demo to let their fans in on the new female fronted hardcore sound. The demo was well received by the fans and media throughout Europe.

Another major line-up change comes to pass. Founding All For Nothing member Normen Sam-Sin decided to end his musical activities. Just like in 2004 the search for a new dedicated member didn’t take too long. A few weeks later, Badr van der Meijden (The Cravers), joined All For Nothing as their new bass player.

In the winter of 2006 All For Nothing recorded their first full length album Can’t Kill whats Inside. The album was recorded by Badr van der Meijden at the Waterfront Studio in Rotterdam (NL) and was mixed by Dirk Miers in De Studio (BE). The final mastering was done by Alan Douches (West West Side Music) in the United States.

The 12 songs on this album give a good impression of what to expect of All For Nothing : Female fronted, high energetic hardcore songs, sing-a-long choruses, punishing beat-down passages and melodic riffs all based on various influences. The album also contains guest vocals by some of All For Nothing close friends, Marco en Dennis (Payback) Henk (Moment of Truth), Dennie (Fist of Fury) and Dries (Second Chance).

The official release date for All For Nothing’s first full length album Can’t Kill whats Inside was the 18th of May 2007 through Swellcreek Records (GER).

August 2007 both guitarist Melvin Sam-Sin and bassist Badr van der Meijden decided to leave All For Nothing due to personal changes. Two weeks later they got replaced by Abdulla Al-tamimi (ex Throwing Bricks) on bass and Sebastiaan Buijsman (ex Samaritan) on guitar.

All For Nothing did various European tour to promote their new album and is determined to continue to do so to establish their name and promote their album.

All For Nothing in constantly touring throughout Europe and played numerous shows with bands like,: Bane, Comeback Kid, This is Hell, The Warriors, Parkway Drive, Cancer Bats, Earthquake, Stretch Armstrong, Verse, 25 Ta Life, Go It Alone, Angel Crew, Bulldoze, Black Friday ’29, Settle The Score, No Turning Back, Miles Away, Cruel Hand, Down To Nothing, Slapshot, Wisdom In Chains, Sworn Enemy, Misconduct, To Kill, Shai Hulud, Last Mile, Static Thought and many more.

In the spring of ’94 four friends are talking about their mutual interest: Hardcore Music. They decide it’s time to start their own band, playing music they love. One week later Wyb (guitar), Patrick (vocals), Frank (bass) and Richard (drums) get together for their first rehearsal. From then on they are known as Backfire!.

In the following weeks they write their first couple of songs, and record them on their first demo titled “The Last Time”. The reactions are unanimously positive, and when German label “Lost & Found” get their hands on a copy of the demo they decide to offer Backfire! record deal. After weeks of delay Backfire!’s first recording “Who Told You Life Is Easy?” is released in October ’95. They start playing their first shows all over Holland, and Belgium alongside hardcore legends like Warzone, Madball and 25 Ta Life. Soon their reputation is set. Less than 6 months later Backfire!’s first full-length CD “Rebel 4 Life” is released.

Impressed with the quality of “Rebel 4 Life” New York hardcore legends Warzone ask Backfire! to support them on their 6 week European tour. At the end of their tour Backfire! have a disagreement with “Lost & Found”, and the band decides to leave the label and look for a new record deal. Several labels show interest in Backfire!, and they finally sign a deal with “Kingfisher Records”, and a couple of months later they are in the studio to record their second full-length album “All Bets Are Off”, which is released in September ’97.
In the following months Backfire! tours Europe with Deviate, and play tons of shows all over Europe to promote their critically acclaimed album. At this time Backfire!’s popularity reaches its climax, and they become a household name to every hardcore fan in Europe. The continuous touring and playing takes its toll at the end of October ’98, when they are touring Europe with 25 Ta Life, they decide it’s time to take some time of before they start writing new songs. Richard uses this time to play the drums on the Commin’ Correct tour in Europe and to record an album with his side project Determined.

Unfortunately on March 20th 1999, Richard takes his own life. His friends and family are shocked to hear this sad news, and it takes several months before Backfire! starts thinking about their future as a band. Replacing someone like Richard is hard, but finally they decide to continue with Homethrust drummer Igor.

In June 2000 record their new album “Still Dedicated” at the Hautregard Studio in Herve, Belgium and onca again toured all over Europe with Madball and many more. A year later they recorded a new EP The War Stars Here, which was released in September 2001 during theyre European Tour with Breakdown and Maximum Penalty on the First Eastpak Resistance Tour. After two years of hard work these M-Town Rebels are back with a new record.
Change The Game was recorded in Brooklyn, NY and was prodcued by Mike Dijan from Breakdown an Math Henderson from Madball and A.F While recording the record Backfire! also played a couple of shows with Madball in Cbgb’s and Connecticut right after they got together with Freddy Madball and Billy Grazaidei(who the’ve met on the Biohazard Backfire european tour) who both appear on this great new record.

Backfire! will play all the major festivals this summer and will tour Europe after the summer to promote this new studio album. So check these guys out and understand why Backfire! is one of the leading European Hardcore bands. Are Last album “in Harms way” is out on GSR and still available and our DVD is comming out in 2011.Backfire signed off in november 2009!But after 3 years they came back for an encore, there new and hardest album so far goes under the name “My Broken World” and is released in Februari 17th 2012 on GSR Music! In 2012 Backfire! will be touring again, starting with their “My Broken World Tour” In march 2012!
KMFDM (originally Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid) is an industrial band led by German multi-instrumentalist Sascha Konietzko, who founded the group in 1984 as a performance art project. KMFDM has released seventeen studio albums, and had sold approximately 2 million records in the United States alone as of September 2003, with multiple albums selling more than 100,000 copies, and a number of singles becoming club hits.

The band has undergone many line-up changes, including countless guest appearances by other musicians. The earliest incarnation of the band included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom would leave and rejoin the group several times over its history. Guitarist Günter Schulz joined in 1990, and both he and Esch continued with the band until KMFDM broke up in 1999. Konietzko resurrected KMFDM in 2002 (with Esch and Schulz declining to rejoin), and by 2005 a consistent line-up emerged, including American singer Lucia Cifarelli, British guitarists Jules Hodgson and Steve White, and British drummer Andy Selway.

KMFDM is considered one of the first bands to bring industrial music to mainstream audiences, though Konietzko refers to the band’s music as “The Ultra-Heavy Beat”. Their early albums relied heavily on samples, drum machines, and synthesizers. The addition of Schulz moved the band in a more industrial metal direction. The band incorporates heavy guitar riffs, electronic music, samples, and often female vocals in their music.
